Mark Hearld & Another Country
Posted by Simon Lewin

We were excited to work with fellow British brand Another Country in upholstering their wonderful Day Bed One, the signature piece of their acclaimed Series One collection.

The day bed, upholstered with Mark Hearld's Bird Garden fabric, was also exhibited at this year's Salone Del Mobile as part of the Talking Textiles exhibition curated by Li Edelkoort. The mattress and bolsters are 100% organic and made in Devon by Naturalmat for Another Country. For more information visit the Another Country website.

Ed Kluz
Posted by Simon Lewin

We're busy getting ready for the sampling of 'Painswick', a forthcoming St. Jude's fabric designed by Ed Kluz.

All being well we'll have samples ready in time for Ed's forthcoming exhibition at The Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh which will feature a range of new collages, drawings and paintings including 'Charlotte Square', pictured below.

Ed Kluz is fascinated by the objects of our cultural heritage. He seeks out the extraordinary, the lost and the overlooked to inspire artworks that re-examine British Romanticism and redefine the contemporary view of historical architecture and landscape.

In Spring 2011 Ed toured the Scottish Borders. His explorations took him around some of the greatest eighteenth-century Scottish architecture including Edinburgh’s New Town, the Dunmore Pineapple, Mellerstain House, Bemersyde and the ruinous shells of Mavisbank House and Penicuik House, which he sketched, recorded and brought back to the studio to work into a collection of finished collages, drawings and paintings that form his latest body of work.

The exhibition runs from 4th to 29th June 2011 at The Scottish Gallery.

If you'd like to receive details of Ed's fabric for St. Jude's, sign up for our e-mail newsletter.

Christopher Brown tote bags
Posted by Simon Lewin

These lined tote bags (and accompanying cushion covers) are the first items in our new range Here & Now range, launched as part of Christopher Brown's English Vernacular exhibition at our gallery in Norfolk (running until early June).

“English Vernacular” represents my continuing interest in this country’s architecture, places, objects, people and animals. The intent is serious but often I can’t resist introducing an element of humour. Christopher Brown, April 2011.

Sold exclusively from St. Jude's, these lined tote bags are produced in small batches and colourway/cloth combinations that may not be repeated. Available whilst stocks last - grab them while you can!

Emily Sutton’s Brown Trout
Posted by Simon Lewin

I was the very lucky recipient of this carved and painted trout by Emily Sutton which Angie commissioned for my birthday a couple of weeks ago. It's a stunning piece of work.

We're in the process of sampling Emily's new fabric for St. Jude's, the follow up to Curiosity Shop.

And Emily will join Angie and Mark Hearld at our next St. Jude's In The City exhibition in London May 2012 (can't quite believe we're working that far ahead).

Alex Malcolmson – remaining work
Posted by Simon Lewin

We had a great day at the opening of Alex Malcolmson's solo exhibition at St. Jude's on Saturday.

Over 30 of his boxworks and birds have now sold but we do have a number of pieces remaining.

A feature on Alex and his work features in the May issue of BBC Homes & Antiques magazine which is published in next few days.

If you'd like to purchase one of the remaining pieces, do get in touch.

Here are a few photos of the work at our gallery.

Here's the hanging sign that we asked Alex to create for our exhibition of his boxworks and birds which opens on Saturday.

We've had a fantastic response to our initial publicity with just a few pieces remaining unsold on our online store.

But Alex will be bringing a number of additional pieces which will initially be available to those visiting the gallery in person.

Join us in North Norfolk from 11am on Saturday 2nd April 2011 for a glass of wine to celebrate the opening of the exhibition.

Black Eyes & Lemonade
Posted by Simon Lewin

Here's another piece of Festival of Britain ephemera from our collection.

‘Black Eyes & Lemonade’ was an exhibition organised by Barbara Jones and Tom Ingram, held at the Whitechapel Art Gallery in 1951 as part of the Festival of Britain. In association with the Arts Council and the Society for Education in Art, the exhibition explored a variety of popular British art  – toys, souvenirs, printed ephemera and the like.

Here's a taster of the catalogue's contents, including an introduction by Barbara Jones.
