Thought I'd jot down a few words on two related exhibitions I've visited recently.
I'm still enjoying looking through the catalogue from Dumfriesshire based Lizzie Farey's exhibition in Edinburgh - a new body of dramatic willow works. I loved her woven bowls & vessels and the large scale wall pieces (pictured below) including swooping birds were particularly inspiring. The exhibition also features a film showing Lizzie at work.
The exhibition runs until Saturday 26th February 2011 at the City Art Gallery, Edinburgh.
View a selection of Lizzie's work over at her website.
Back at the Sainsbury Centre in Norwich I had a chance to visit their 'Basketry: Making Human Nature' exhibition. Here, predominantly functional objects are displayed including a strong but delicately woven Thai fish trap and a Norfolk whelk basket of tarred woven rope. Both very different but beautiful objects. The exhibition runs until 22nd May 2011. Further details from the Sainsbury Centre website.
