Ed Kluz
Posted by Simon Lewin

UPDATE Ed Kluz will be exhibiting at our gallery in North Norfolk in December 2009. The exhibition opens on 12th December 2009. Full details

And in early 2010 we'll be launching one or two screen printed textiles design by Ed for our St. Jude's range.

I popped over to Potterton Books this afternoon to take a look at their exhibition of work by Ed Kluz, "The Pleasure Gardens of London".

In his first London show, Ed Kluz exhibits a series of unique collages and gouache paintings - all clearly the result of some paintstaking research.

From kaleidoscopic lantern walks of Cremorne to the elaborate cascades of Mr Finch’s grounds, now lost beneath the streets of Southwark, Ed's work encapsulates these extraordinary places of escapism for London Society.

Ed Kluz "The Pleasure Gardens of London" runs until 31st May 2009 at Potterton Books, 93 Lower Sloane Street, London SW1W 8DA.

More letterpress
Posted by Simon Lewin

Kate came over to the shed again on Friday for some more letterpress printing. This time to start on some tags that we use for care instructions our St. Jude's range of fabrics. I'd printed the first batch at Harrington & Squires, prior to getting our own presses up and running.

The tag features a vintage block sourced in a dusty junk shop - with text to be added later in a second colour.

Colin Wilkin
Posted by Simon Lewin

'North Sea Jetty' is one of the watercolour paintings that Colin Wilkin will be exhibiting at St. Jude's in July.

Colin lives and works on the Suffolk/Essex border and is inspired by the surrounding landscape. Having studied at Brighton University for his BA and then the Royal College of Art for his MA, Colin has exhibited at the Britten-Pears Library during the Aldeburgh Festival, The Fry Art Gallery, Gainsborough's House and the Curwen & New Academy Gallery.

We'll be adding further images to our website in the run up to Colin's exhibition.

First Class Post

One of the benefits of working with artists such as Mark Hearld are the little bits of ephemera which occasional arrive with work or on the doormat.

Such a gem arrived earlier this week, enclosing the selvedge graphic for Mark's follow up to his Doveflight textile design, to be launched in the next few months.

Later in the year we'll have an exhibition of Mark's unique collages which will also form the content for the first St. Jude's Press publication. As ever, do sign up for our e-mail newsletter if you'd like details nearer the time.

Wolterton Hall
Posted by Kate Sullivan

Just a few minutes up the road from our St. Jude's Gallery in Itteringham is Wolterton Hall. A beautiful estate built by Thomas Ripley in the 1720s for Horatio Walpole: politician, diplomat  and younger brother to Britain's first Prime Minister - Sir Robert Walpole.

Last Sunday, Wolterton Hall's walled kitchen garden opened its gates to the public as part of their annual Organic Garden Event. I hadn't visited before and didn't know what to expect but the day was thoroughly enjoyable and insightful for anyone - green fingered or not.

We stumbled across David Barker, the organic farmer at Wolterton talking about the importance of soil, its quality and how we must 'feed' it. He also showed us just how much soil is on our planet using an apple to represent Earth. I found this clip on You Tube which explains what David demonstrated to us. Fascinating stuff.

Vote for us
Posted by Simon Lewin

You'll see we've added a graphic to the right for the Dorset Cereals Little Blog Awards. We wouldn't normally add such a link but we eat enough of the stuff and the chance to win a hamper load was too good to resist. And you might win a case of cereal too. Forgetting our stomachs for a second, we're hoping a few new readers will find us via their website. So, if you could spare a couple of seconds, please vote for us.

Our new home
Posted by Simon Lewin

Just a quick post to let you know that we've just transferred the hosting of All Things Considered. We're also making a couple of tweaks to the system which might mean that from time to time over the next few days, things might look a bit odd. Bear with us... normal (and hopefully better) service will be resumed shortly!

The RE Annual
Posted by Angie Lewin

Metroland We were pleased to make it to the recent opening of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers’ Annual Exhibition - one of the busiest ever - showcasing the broad range of RE members’ work from the smallest of wood engravings to substantial screen prints and etchings.

A favourite of mine is ‘Metroland’, a linocut of a London tube train carriage, echoing the work of Cyril Power, by Gail Brodholt.

Also launched on the evening was ‘Printmakers’Secrets’ by Anthony Dyson VPRE (A&C Black) which offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the unique working practice of individual printmakers.

The exhibition runs until 7th June. Open daily 11-6. For full details see www.banksidegallery.com
