Witch Hazel
Posted by Angie Lewin

On the way across the garden to my studio each day I pass our witch hazel which is in flower at the moment. I love its papery twisted petals that form the spidery yellow flowers dotted along its bare winter branches Set off by the black weather-boarded shed it is eye catching. There are lots of cultivars - ours is ‘Pallida’ (Hamamelis x intermedia ‘Pallida’ Witch Hazel) which has a beautiful scent -  even though I suppose it might bring back memories, for those of us old enough, of witch hazel being dabbed by a burly dinner lady onto any minor playground scrape or graze.

Hand & Eye Letterpress
Posted by Simon Lewin

When we were putting together our forthcoming St. Jude's In The City exhibition in London, it seemed natural to ask Phil Abel to contribute. We've worked with Phil on our own stationery and gift vouchers and Phil often collaborates with printmaker Chris Brown.

Based in East London, Hand & Eye work with a range of clients to produce their letterpress printed work.

And Phil has unearthed about 200 wood-letter posters (see below) that he printed about 10 years ago and never distributed. These will be available to visitors of our exhibition at the Bankside Gallery on a first come, first served basis.

Jamie Woon

A musical interlude.

I know very little about him, but have been enjoying Woon's version of Wayfaring Stranger. There's also a Burial remix available. But could either match this?

Pastures new
Posted by Simon Lewin

Some changes afoot at St. Jude's...

We have now closed our Aylsham gallery to the public and are in the process of preparing our new venue in the nearby North Norfolk village of Itteringham, not far from Blickling Hall. We'll be opening here in late February 2009. Sign up for our free e-mail newsletter for further details.

This is part of some gentle expansion for St. Jude's - our existing premises in Aylsham will now be dedicated to the design of our screen-printed textiles and a new letterpress studio (which we're very excited about). These will be open by appointment only.

Our new gallery (on the right hand side of this photograph) will primarily focus on a range of original prints and our own St. Jude's textiles and stationery. But we'll still also play host to a number of additional exhibitions throughout the year.

We'll be working alongside the community run village shop and café next door, and there's also the excellent Walpole Arms just down the road.

Don't visit us just yet - we'll be opening towards the end of February - we have our St. Jude's In The City exhibition at the Bankside Gallery to organise first.

Wood Bone Iron Stone
Posted by Kate Sullivan

Blackshed 4
Wood Bone Iron Stone is an exhibition of new sculptural work by Tim Sanderson.

There is an open invitation to view Tim's work at Voewood, a beautiful and unique Arts & Crafts house in High Kelling near Holt, Norfolk.

Built as Voewood it was renamed Home Place and is known as such in the architectural histories. Pevsner describes Voewood as "by far the most interesting building in this part of Norfolk …. reminiscent of Gaudi’s work in Barcelona".

The exhibition opens on Saturday 7th February from 1pm until 5pm.

It is also open on Sunday for quieter contemplation from 1pm - 4pm.

There is also a blog edition of the Book Cover Archive which covers general chit chat and information on all things book related.
